Tiles and Tiling

Tiles_BathroomBeautiful tiles can modernise and define a home or office and there are literally thousands of colours and stiles to choose. Tiles are very durable, look clean and are easy to look after. They are perfect for both low and high foot traffic areas.

Indoor tiles usually come in two types, floor tiles and wall tiles.

Floor tiles are larger, usually around 400mm x 400mm in size and can cost between $15 and $40/m2. Floor tiles come in a range of colors and finishes and are can be found in any part of the house except the bedrooms where wooden floors and carpet are predominantly found.

Wall tiles are smaller than floor tiles and can cost between $20 and $50/m2 plus labour. Wall tiles usually have a glossy finish with a range of patterns on a single wall. Wall tiles are primarily found in bathrooms, toilets and kitchens.

Outdoor tiles usually come in three types: outdoor floor tiles, outdoor wall tiles, and swimming pool tiles. Outdoor tiles can cost between $15 and $40/m2 plus labour.

Outdoor tiles are more rugged than indoor tiles designed to withstand the harsh climatic conditions. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are the most popular choice for outdoors.

Ceramic tiles are cheaper and can be used for outdoors. High quality ceramic tiles have a resistance from staining and color loss. High quality porcelain tiles can cost more but they are more suitable for outdoor climatic conditions. Porcelain tiles are less prone to loosing color and have a high saltwater and chlorine resistance. There are other tiles on the market that are just as well or can be more suitable for outdoors than porcelain and ceramic.

Please consult in detail with your local tile shop about the tile that is most suitable for your lifestyle. Also do some Internet research about the positives and negatives of having each type of tile before making your mind up. It is important that you shop around and ask questions when it comes to tiles as you don?t want to have the wrong tiles on your floor.
