How to Make the Most of Your Outdoor Area

Making_the_most_of_your_outdoor_area_350To make the most of your outdoor area you have to be able to view the area not in terms of its limitations, but in terms of its possibilities.  For example, if you’ve always dreamed of putting a shrimp or two onto a massive natural brick barbecue and your outdoor area is small, you might see only the limitations of size.  Instead, try seeing the possibility of outdoor barbecue grills on wheels.

If you’ve always wanted to plant a vegetable garden and you once again think only in terms of the limitations of your existing space, you’ll never experience the thrill and the benefit of preparing a dinner salad, picked right from your outdoor area.  Instead, think of the possibilities of container and border gardening.  Large pots on wheels are easily moved around your outdoor area and are suitable for a variety of vegetables.  Hanging containers are another possibility.  Finally, consider using red leaf lettuce as a border plant around the perimeter of your outdoor area.  It’s not only attractive, it’s delicious!

If you would like to eat outdoors but don’t have the space for an outdoor dining table, think end tables and tray tables instead.  Tray tables are available in quality PVC materials and have the benefit over end tables of easy storage and retrieval for use.

If you love relaxing outdoors but head inside at the first sign of cold weather, consider adding portable heaters to your outdoor area.  They are available in tower models that heat large areas and table models for smaller areas.  They come powered by electricity or in natural or propane gas models.  Due to their increasing popularity you can now find them at all major home centers as well as on many Internet e-Commerce sites.

How about an outdoor fire pit?  Again, demand breeds supply, and you can now find a wide variety of outdoor fireplaces everywhere outdoor furnishings and accessories are sold.  For outdoor areas of limited size, many models of outdoor fireplaces come equipped with wheels for easy portability.

If you love flowers but lack the space for large, dramatic flower beds, think of the possibilities of vertical gardening.  Trellises covered in climbing flowering vine plants add a dramatic effect to your outdoor area.  Hanging containers and fence or deck mounted flower boxes are great possibilities to deal with your space limitations.

Many homeowners limit their thinking of outdoor area design to plants, patios, and decks.  Try incorporating stone, lighting, and outdoor ponds or fountains as ways to dramatically alter your outdoor landscape.  Stone retaining walls along the perimeter form dramatic borders and solar lighting adds an elegant touch to evenings spent under the stars in front of your outdoor fireplace.
Use natural stone or paving blocks or bricks to create winding paths through your outdoor area and line the pathways with solar lights.

Few things are as relaxing as the sound of gently flowing water, and you can now recreate that effect with outdoor fountains.  There are a wide variety of portable models available and the only thing needed for installation is an outdoor electrical outlet.  The water in these fountains is self contained, recycled through a pump system.  What could be easier than getting the sound of a babbling brook by simply plugging an outdoor fountain unit into an outlet?
